Baer Brake Rotors are of various types- it can be cross-drilled, slotted or can have zinc-coated surfaces. The use of each has been described in the sections below. These rotors are generally cast with quality iron materials for a superior performance. The design of the Baer Brake Motors is curve-vane. This guarantees greater airflow and heat dissipation.
The cross-drilled rotor consists of rows of holes drilled through the surface of the rotor. The slotted rotor consists of a series of grooves milled from the center spreading towards the edge. Both these motors not only have a great appearance, but it also ensures better ventilating making it more effective.
These Brake Rotors can be either a 2-Piece rotor or a 1-Piece rotor, which is the standard one. But, it is always advantageous to choose the 2-Piece rotor for the savings it causes on the weight. Also, many people choose it for it racy look.
One of the concerns raised, especially by racers, is about “out gassing”- the condition in which the bonding agents of the brake begins to break down at extreme temperature. Cross-drilling and slotting prevents this by expending the gas if and when they develop. Even though cross- drilling minimizes “out gassing” however, there is a potential problem wherein cracks might occur. But, Baer’s rotors curve vane design coupled with the superior iron casting minimizes the chances of cracks. Baer’s recommends slotted surface for track use only.
Slotting helps the car to decelerate faster. But, slotting does not result in greater weigh-saving like cross-drilling. Still, it is very effective towards “out gassing”. The slots can pump away this gas, thus can retain the contact and hence, provide the required friction. The slots also tend to even out any wear and tear caused on the break pad faces, thereby increasing the contact area and thus, the effectiveness. This would also extend the rotor life.
The various characteristics of Baer Brake Rotors are as follows:
● Enhanced friction and less wear and tear
● Increased heat absorption
● Rapid thermal recovery
● comes in cross-drilled, slotted and zinc-washed
● Limited life time warranty against warping
